Most halal restaurants in North London give you a choice, decent food or a decent night out. Rarely both.

Alicis opened on Lordship Lane, N17 in 2022 and quietly changed that. It sits between Wood Green and Tottenham, and if you’ve driven past it without stopping, that’s on you.

The menu is Turkish and Mediterranean, and features a huge choice of halal dishes. Breakfast runs until 4pm, and by the evening the place feels completely different. Even the drinks feel like someone’s actually thought about them properly.

The space is open, the kind you don’t find much around here. It draws in everyone, a grandmother’s birthday one table over, a group of mates on a Friday two tables down. Nobody looks out of place because nobody is.

There are plenty of halal restaurants in North London. Not many get the food, atmosphere and crowd right at the same time.
